Do’s

  • Allotment of PAN application process undergoes through 'Form 49A' for that purpose.
  • Use blank ink and ensure you fill application form in English in block letters to minimize errors.
  • Use a recent color photograph of 3.5 cm X 2.5 cm and paste it on the application.
  • Provide your signature within the box itself.
  • Ensure that your thumb impression gets attested by a Notary Public or a Gazette Officer like a Magistrate with stamp and official seal in case your application has your thumb impression to authenticate it while processing an application.
  • Make sure you have the correct AO code while filling application to minimize error.
  • If an applicant is in defense sector, then specification of AO code would be in the following style
    • Army - PNE W 55 3
    • Navy - MUM W 11 8
    • Air Force - DEL W 72 2
  • Attach documents such as Proof of Address (POA), Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Date of birth (PODB) to be added by the HUF Karta individual applicants). It comes under the 114 (4) Rule of 1962 Income Tax Rules of Government of India.
  • Ensure that you have produced POA, POI and PODB that remains exact as you had mentioned in your application form.
  • Fill the column 14 of application with providing Representative Assessee details in the cases of minor, deceased, and lunatic or idiot applicants.
  • In case Representative Assessee is appointed, then provide POA and POI for that purpose only.
  • Fill the application with complete postal address with an addition of a landmark as well.
  • Fill the address filed by mentioning the correct pin code.
  • Mention your email id and telephone number while filling an application for PAN.

Don’ts

  • Overwriting and making corrections in the application is not permitted.
  • Photograph shouldn’t be stapled or pinned in the form.
  • Make sure not to sign across the box as signature should only be within that box itself.
  • There is no need to produce POI, POA and PODB for names not mentioned in an application.
  • No need to add extra details such as ranks, dates and designations while putting signature in the box of your application.
  • Avoid mentioning name of your husband in a column that requires mentioning Father's Name instead.
  • Use of initials in the first and last name field isn’t allowed.
  • If you already have a PAN, then no need to go for a new application.
